Swedish actor and filmmaker Dolph Lundgren married his fiancee Emma Krokdal, 27, after he revealed he was told he has “two to three years to live” amid his devastating cancer battle.

The iconic Rocky IV movie star married his partner in an intimate ceremony in Mykonos after revealing to the media that he had been battling cancer privately for eight years. The couple announced their engagement in 2020 and tied the knot at their villa in Greece on July 13, 2023.

The Swedish star and his partner got married in an intimate ceremony at their villa in Mykonos after they jetted off to the sunny destination for a much-needed holiday.

In an interview with People, the Hollywood star revealed that they postponed the wedding due to the Covid pandemic and shared that it “felt right” to celebrate their love in the “land of Gods”.

“We chose to celebrate our love by getting married at our villa in Mykonos with family and a few close friends,” Lundgren told the outlet. “With both Covid and a long road of challenging medical treatments, we’ve had to push our marriage plans many times.”

He added: “We felt it was finally the right time to celebrate love, life, and happiness— in the land of the Gods.”

Lundgren was told he has “two to three years to live”

The marriage bliss comes after Lundgren revealed that a doctor told him that he has only “two to three years to live” amid his heartbreaking cancer diagnosis.

Speaking to journalist Graham Bensinger, the actor explained: “They started saying things like, ‘You should take a break and spend more time with your family,’ and so forth.

“So, I kinda asked him, ‘How long do you think I have left?’ and I think he said, ‘Two or three years,’ but I could tell in his voice that he probably thought it was less.”

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Lundgren is grateful for his life and career and said that he “lived like five lifetimes in one” and he “wasn’t like I was bitter about it”.

The actor sought the opinion of another doctor and he was given a more encouraging update that cancer could be treated in different ways.

Meet Emma on Instagram

Lundgren’s wife Emma, 27, is a personal trainer from Norway. She first met the celebrity Swedish star at the fitness club West Hollywood Equinox.

In the same interview with Graham Besinger, Lundgren said that Emma wasn’t aware of his Hollywood background when they first met.

But now that she is fully acquainted with his impressive acting portfolio, Emma regularly shares sweet tributes to her husband and posts snaps from their travels and special occasions.

In one of her Instagram posts, Emma gushed over the actor and wrote: “I’ll say it again, real-life superhero right here. On-screen and off-screen.”
