Selena Gomez has taken to social media to address claims that her new song, Single Soon is about her ex, The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye.

The music star has recently been ‘accused’ of shading Justin Bieber’s ex, Hailey Bieber in a video promo for her new song, and now she’s responded to claims she’s singing about her other celebrity ex. Here’s what she had to say.

Selena Gomez on the meaning of her new song

Taking to her Instagram, the star shared the real meaning of her new song, although some fans jumped to conclusions of their own.

In a post, Selena Gomez thanked fans for the support of her latest single, while revealing the true meaning behind her latest work in the caption, as she penned:

“Thank you guys for all the love on Single Soon!!! It’s a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company… and it’s also really fun to dance to!”

However, she’s had to take to social media to address claims her lyrics were about a certain ex.

Selena Gomez addresses The Weeknd rumors

Of course, fans got excited as the Disney alum released her first single after a long hiatus, but they may have looked into the lyrics a bit too much.

Instagram account Hollywood Life tweeted a picture of the two at the Met Gala, along with the caption:

“In case you missed it, #SelenaGomez released her newest song, ‘Single Soon’ earlier this week! Her fans believe that it is about her romance with #TheWeeknd. What do you think?”

To fans’ surprise, the 31-year-old herself commented under the post, writing: “Couldn’t be more false.”

Speculation came after fans heard the lyrics in the track, which say: “Maybe I’ll just disappear,
I don’t wanna see a tear, And the weekend’s almost here”

However, we now know the case is closed.

The couple’s relationship explored

Although the relationship was short-lived, at 10 months, the two music powerhouses sent the world into a frenzy when they appeared together at the Met Gala in 2017.

Their first couple selfie was shared a month before the huge event, as they cozied up together at Coachella.

In September, it was even reported by PEOPLE that the Blinded By The Lights singer planned his tour dates around Selena’s kidney transplant.

However, unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be as the couple went their separate ways in October of that same year, although confirmed in November that they split “as best friends”.
